Charleswood Public Library Wins Excellence in Universal Design and Accessibility Award.

October 15, 2015 was a very good day for design recognition in the City of Winnipeg in general, and for LM Architectural Group and Environmental Space Planning in particular. The Premier’s Design Awards for Excellence (The PADE Awards) was re-instated after a thirty year hiatus. At an event held at the Manitoba Legislative Building, David Kressock, a Partner at LM, accepted a Premiere’s Award for Excellence on behalf of LM Architectural Group and Patkau Architects of Vancouver for the ART Lab at the University of Manitoba. This was the first of three phases in the $ 100M Tache Hall Music, Art and Theatre Complex at the University. The renovation of Tache Hall for administration, practice studios and the creation of the Conklin Auditorium (formerly the Black Hole Theatre) is now complete, and a new addition is now under construction behind Tache Hall that will accommodate classroom and large rehearsal studios for the Faculty of Music.

That same evening Corey Greenham, an Associate at LM,  accepted an Access Award of Excellence in Universal Design and Accessibility for the Charleswood Public Library. Located in a non-descript commercial strip mall on Roblin Boulevard, this project incorporates accessibility and universal design features seamlessly within the project. The library is organized around an internal passageway, a flexible space designed to provide visual and physical connection between multiple library spaces for all levels of mobility. This Library was also recently featured in Library Journal in the Year in Review as a 2015 “benchmark project”.
