University of Calgary Phase 6 Residence

This new, seven storey, 596 bed student residence consists of primarily three bedroom, self-contained suites.  In order to function as a viable business entity, the residence operates as a hotel during the academic off-season and, there is a significant retail component to the facility.

Although project cost and an aggressive schedule were significant design determinants, issues of context, scale, siting and landscape were addressed in very positive ways.

In order to meet the aggressive schedule, a design/build process was used and a full architectural design development package and performance specifications was produced in twelve weeks.  The design team was retained to provide advocate architect services to the university throughout the tender process and construction phases.
