Intermediate Specification Writer

Are you an organized team player who is well versed in construction sequencing, building codes and passionate about researching design products and systems? We are looking to expand our team with the addition of an Intermediate Specification Writer and would like to hear from you!

RESPONSIBILITIES
As Intermediate Architectural Specification Writer, you will be responsible for the clear, thorough production of construction specifications documents, and supporting project quality control for diverse project types, ranging in scale from interior office fit-ups to large, multi-level facilities. With knowledge of construction laws, building codes and standards, you will focus on the preparation, coordination and production of detailed, project specific, architectural project manual specifications. The candidate will be required to research and evaluate building materials, methods, products and systems to integrate findings into the office’s evolving specifications. The candidate will regularly translate drawings, schedules and research into concisely compiled, high quality specifications that support the smooth, professional implementation of the design into the completed project. The Specification Writer must be confident collaborating with others and skilled in reviewing technical material that aligns with diverse contract requirements and expectations. This team member serves as a technical resource to coworkers and consultants and helps to maintain the office’s specifications through a commitment to continuous learning.

QUALIFICATIONS AND KEY REQUIREMENTS
• Training, experience and/or college or post-secondary education in Architecture, construction technology or a related field.
• Certified Specification Writer (CSP), and/or association with Construction Specifications Canada is preferred
• Minimum 5-10 years general architecture experience with 2-4 years’ experience in specification writing, project research and contract document coordination
• Ability to research products and systems and translate findings into clear instruction
• Able to interpret drawings and schedules
• Familiar with Building Codes, National Master Spec (NMS), MasterFormat, Section Format, CCDC Documents.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills including ability to read, interpret, apply, and explain drawings, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
• Knowledge of architectural and interior design detailing
• Knowledge of construction practices, standards, laws, codes, ordinances, bonds and insurances
• Strong time management skills to work on multiple projects at once
• Organized and self-directed to meet project schedules and timelines
• Strong attention to detail for editing and reviewing in Word, Excel and other MS Office Products
• Demonstrated ability to produce quality deliverables, delegate effectively and monitor project tasks
• Knowledge of how work is done on site is considered an asset
