This major expansion to the existing regional high school involved the addition of 35,000 s.f. over two floors to create a new consolidated Middle School. The project also involved related interior renovations and an associated 74 space standalone daycare facility, completing the overall school campus. Expanding west of the existing facility, the new addition is specifically configured and sited to maintain exterior community play space, adding 10 classrooms, an art room and fully equipped band room as well as supporting educational, recreational and administrative space. Entering from a new bus staging area below a continuous entrance canopy, students, staff and visitors are welcomed into a spacious “commons” framed by the school library and administration suite. This “core” is envisioned as a flexible learning space; opening library, MPR and gymnasium to the public corridor, providing a suite of communal spaces for academic and broader community use.
