Winnipeg Millennium Library

The Millennium Project was a major redevelopment of Winnipegs Central Library which included:

  • addition of 40,000 SF of new space;
  • construction of a new fourth floor;
  • renovations throughout the existing 110,000 sq ft library; and
  • sustainable design concepts for responsible energy management.

The library features a new Reading Terrace with a four storey high solar glass wall, two panoramic glass elevators and a grand staircase which faces the existing urban park directly south of the Library.

Winner of Invitational Design Competition in June 2002, Canadian Architect Award of Excellence in 2004, Prairie Design Award of Merit in 2006, The Lieutenant-Governor of British Columbias Medal of Excellence in Architecture in 2007 and most recently The Governor General’s Medal in Architecture, 2008.
